AGRITURISMO IL CUCCIOLO

Due to an unexpected scheduling conflict, the second week of the 2009 workshop will be held at another villa nearby, called Il Cucciolo ("The Puppy" or "The Cub"). Students will transfer to Il Cucciolo by car on the morning of Saturday, June 20th, and then have the remainder of the day to themselves. Food and cleaning services will be provided as at Villa Michelangelo.

Il Cucciolo is an Agriturismo—a working farm with apartments for rent to vacationers. Il Cucciolo features three recently renovated stone houses and a heated swimming pool. The garden around the houses and the pool is is fenced in and separated from the fields (25 hectacre) dedicated to organic farming.

ACCOMMODATIONS

The main house is divided into three apartments, one on the top floor and two on the bottom floor, with a connecting door. The apartments are called Cielo (Sky), Sole (Sun), and Luna (Moon). In addition, Bosco (Forest) House is a small two story unit with two bedrooms.

Housing at Il Cucciolo will be assigned upon arrival.

LOCATION

Il Cucciolo is located in Umbria, in the valley immediately to the north of Villa Michelangelo, about a mile from the village of Petrelle. The largest nearby town is Città di Castello, and Cortona is to the west, not much further away than it is from Villa Michelangelo.

DIRECTIONS

We will transfer as a group to Il Cucciolo, so you should not have to worry about finding it. These are provided just in case. Please see also the maps at the bottom of this page, and always consult a road atlas.

1. From Rome, take the A1 Autostrada (toll highway) north toward Firenze (Florence). Exit at Orte and pay the exit toll.

2. Take the E45 highway toward Perugia, and then past Perugia toward Cesena. Exit at Promano, which is just after Umbertide.

3. Follow the signs for Trestina, and when you arrive at the roundabout, go left (three quarters of the way around).

4. When you arrive at Trestina there is a fork. Stay to thre right and follow the signs for Morra and Bivio Lugnano (for about 3.5 km).

5. You will pass through Bivio Lugnano. When you pass a gas station called IP (on the right), turn left in the direction of Lugnano and Petrelle.

6. Drive through Petrelle until you arrive at the high walled cemetery of San Zeno (from the IP gas station, this is about 7 km). Immediately after the cemetery, turn left onto an unpaved gravel road.

7. Follow the road for a kilometer and a half, pass the first iron gate on the right, and at the second iron gate on the right, you will find Il Cucciolo.
